Product Pile: Lip Balm

One hundred percent one of the things I couldn't live without is lip balm. I apply it constantly and it's a vital part of my routine. I thought since I'd accumulated a decent amount of different products I may as well share my thoughts on all the different balms I have currently in my collection.

Go-To Lips!

I love this stuff. I use this in my morning and nighttime skincare routine, and my lips feel delightful after I use it. The only downside to this lip balm is that due to its ingredients it melts in the heat. The packaging of it means that this isn't too much of an issue, though. This is probably my favourite lip balm, however I do prefer something slightly lighter on a hot summer's day.

Sol De Janeiro Cupuaçu Lip Butter:

This lip balm is great because it's nourishing but feels lightweight on the lips. It also smells delightful, which I've come to expect from everything Sol De Janeiro. This is the lip balm I've been reaching for the most during days at home lately, because I don't need to pack on the SPF and want a thinner formula.

Burt's Bees Lip Balm in Strawberry:

This is the bog-standard lip balm I buy when I forget to put some in my handbag and find myself in need of it. It does the job, it's reliable and I probably own five.

Lucas' Papaw Ointment:

I grew up loving this stuff. This was an absolute essential during high school for me, but after learning more about skincare it's no longer my favourite. The ingredients don't offer much nourishment for lips, but will protect from the elements so it's still a good product. Definitely good for putting over a more nourishing balm if it's a windy day. One thing I've used this for since I was a young teenager is protecting pimples while they heal. I'm no expert, but I think it does something.

Blistex Lip Conditioner with SPF 15

I'm a SPF devotee, and your lips absolutely need some loving during the day. Unfortunately, every lip balm with SPF I've come across is a chemical formula as opposed to a physical one. That being said, most stay clear of the ingredients my skin doesn’t like. The ingredients list on this product is probably the most iffy of the SPF balms I mention in this post, but I haven't had any reactions to it and I'd rather use chemical sunscreen than go without.

Frank Body Send Nudes Lip Tint:

I feel like I neglect this lip balm. I like to wear SPF during the day, but I need to remember to use this at night or over the top of an SPF balm. This balm is full of great, nourishing ingredients and deserves more love from me. I'm picky with nude lip colours, and this one gets the tick of approval from me.

Lanolips in Rose Gold:

I've spoke about this balm before and how it was a bit of a let down. I find way too much product comes out of the tube , much more than you need, and the consistency is a little too thick and tacky to use on the cheeks. It does look nice when applied to the lips, but it's not a product I reach for on a regular basis.

Olio E Osso Balm in No. 10:

I haven't tried this product enough to form a solid opinion on it. It does leave a nice sheer wash of colour on the lips and cheeks, but I prefer it on cheeks more than lips.

Mecca Lip De Luscious SPF in Rose:

This is the lip balm I keep in my bag and use almost every day, it's the perfect rosy tint. On the lips it has more of a gloss consistency, but it's not too sticky. The SPF in it is chemical, but uses avobenzone which is the best of them.

Fresh Lip Sugar in Berry SPF:

I love this balm so much I want it in all colours. This balm uses avobenzone like Mecca's (seriously, I need a physical SPF lip balm I will pay so much money for it) and leaves a lovely sheer wash of colour on the lips. I especially love this berry tone, because it's a good way to very casually rock a bolder lip and doesn't require the upkeep that your normal bold lip does.

I've amassed a handful of lip scrubs so figured I'd include them in here too, because moisturising your lips is all well and good but sometimes they just need a good scrub.

Frank Body Lip Scrub:

This is by far my favourite lip scrub. The consistency is thick and slightly moist, which makes it easier to apply. It also smells and tastes great, which is always a bonus. This scrub leaves my lips delightfully smooth and ready for moisturising or easy lipstick application.

Tarte Lip Scrub:

I keep this scrub in my handbag for use on the go, because it's thinner in consistency than the Frank Body scrub and easier to wipe off. It has a slightly minty flavour and feeling, which I'm not a massive fan of nor am I hugely opposed to.

Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum:

I'm not a massive fan of this scrub. It's very dry and powdery, so I find it hard to apply. I'm also not a huge fan of the flavour, but I've tried other flavours and liked them. This scrub does an okay job at exfoliating my lips, but other scrubs I've mentioned do a better job.
