Dogs of the World: Hong Kong

Just trying to pat all the dogs in the world.

I travelled to Hong Kong for my 21st birthday at the end of last year, and while I was there managed to scout out the best places for everyone's favourite kind of sightseeing: dog spotting. So here's the best places to find dogs in Hong Kong.

1. Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong Island is known for being where the rich expats live. If you're desperately craving avocado on toast and a flat white after eating as authentically as possible for three days (me), this is the place to be. It's also basically a dog park.

2. Stanley Markets, Hong Kong Island

I'll admit these markets were pretty disappointing in terms of shopping, but they didn't disappoint when it came to dogs. They also boast a pretty decent view of the bay, so while we didn't buy anything there we were glad we went.

3. Lantau Island

Monks know how to live. They've got good food and a home full of dogs, that's the kind of life I want.

There were countless dogs (and a few cows) lazing around the monastery, apparently all dogs taken in by the monastery after the island was redeveloped. This was one of the highlights of our trip, we got to experience some amazing culture here. The cable car ride to the island was one of the things I was most excited for, and it didn't let me down. Definitely go for the clear bottomed cable car, too.

Happy dog spotting!
